Hi folks!

I know British troops wore blue trousers and khaki jackets in this period, but cant find good references about this type of uniform colours. My doubts, this khaki jackets they were equal to the red ones from Zulu Wars?
Anyone have good references to help me?

Thanks in advance!
Pedro.

Hi Pedro - Ive found these, if they are of use? The khaki tunics were usually of local manufacture, so were far from uniform in colour and they were made from cotton drill material, which faded when washed. Officers tunics were often slightly more ornate, with patch pockets, but, again, did not necessarily follow regulations.

Although the trousers are shown in blue, very often these were substituted for khaki in the field, as they were less conspicuous.

I hope this helps,

Steve(y)

Thank you Mick!

I have other figure but I gonna try to avoid painting the soldier all khaki. The drawings above pleased me very much with the blue trousers but with this uniform my doubts are, which regiment use that kind of uniform???

Cheers,
Pedro.

Hi Pedro - 1880 was the time of the Cardwell Reforms for the British Army and all line infantry regiments after these had an identical uniform. The only exception were the Rifles who had black leather equipment and black rank badges. I think you could safely say that the drawings depict a generic uniform which could be worn by all or any units at that time in that conflict. Obviously, there were considerable variations in uniform and it would take a brave man to say what is definitely right or wrong!!(y)

I read a few minutes ago in a web forum that 67th regiment of the foot wore in second Afghan war khaki jackets with blue trousers. :)

Thank you again Steve!

Pedro.
