There 're a few older threads already about painting bronze, but I thought of asking the question again. Maybe someone has new ideas or methods. I'm mainly interested in painting bronze helmets and roman shields.
So if anyone has great suggestions how to paint bronze (with oils!) please react !!

Jus' use the Vallejo alcohol based metallic Bronze colours. In my view these paints are the 'mutts nuts' and i've kinda' ended up givin 'em another name - 'Liquid Metal', 'cos thats jus what they are.
They're naturally very shiny and the pigment is such that it cannot be seen at all, givin' a beautiful uniform finish jus' like the real thing, literally.
I've heard that they contain real metallic flake.
The finish will need to be 'toned' or 'washed' down if you don't want the shine, but they'll still retain they're metallic 'highlights'.
Tamiya X-19 Smoke and X-20A acrylic thinner in a 50/50 mix is what I use. It dries without leavin' any hard edges and naturally collects in all the right places, givin' you a guide for the subsequent oil paint shadin', if need be.

I have tried a few different methods, Games workshop Tin bitz as a starting point then shaded with washes of Sap green, Sepia warm and* highlights picked out with Vallejo old gold. You could also try oil paints onto the bare polished white metal. This picture shows the first method.Hope this is of some help.
