Hi Guys,

I've started working on one on my older 120mm commercial pieces. This was originally sculpted for Custom Dioramics as a Japanese marine standard bearer, but I am converting this one to an infantryman, China, 1930s. The tunic needs modifying, as does some of the equipment, the tabi will be made into boots and he will have a new head with helmet amongst some other slight changes.(y)

Great subject and an interesting conversion. I take it this one is now OOP? As CD haven't updated their Facebook page in almost 3 years, I'm guessing that they are no longer trading?

Looks interesting, not a period one sees very often and given the things the Japanese did it is maybe not surprising. Still it has to be kept alive to learn from! Must be an interesting task converting your own work.

Cheers Simon

Progressing well with my 120mm conversion from Japanese Marine standard bearer to Japanese infantryman, China, 1936-7. Still lots of detailing to add and some cleanup to do and it looks a bit odd as I've not sculpted eyelids yet, but I'm happy with the pose. The helmet needs filing and sanding to shape, it has a new head, Ive made a new water canteen and gasmask bag and I will add a bayonet, possibly a small flag, to the rifle(y) .

Cracking work, he's going to be good, I'll be interested in how you make the bayonet, unless you use a stock one!

Cheers Simon

Hi Steve

Nice update again on this , always fascinates me how sculptors approach things ...in this instance the helmet , get the basic shaping and sanding

Following this with interest

Have fun

PS I this based on a illustration in a Osprey book ?

Hi Guys,

Finished all the conversion work and remodelling on my Japanese infantryman, China, 1936. Just waiting for an opportunity to get it primed. Converted from my original commercial sculpt of a Japanese SNLF standard bearer, 1/16 scale
