This is another fantastic Tunison sculpture depicting General John Buford and General John Reynolds meeting at Gettysburg on 1 July 1863. It is the companion piece to the Pickett and Longstreet sculpture. Not quite as dramatic, but a nice little scene. It is approximately 200mm scale and is a mix of enamels and artist’s oils. I just did a complete repaint on the horse. The black oil paint I used was a cheap student grade that keep getting a white residue forming on it and I had a lot of historical inaccuracies on the saddle and tack that I fixed after coming across a picture of the actual items.

Waaaay too big for me! This is superb stuff, mate. I can't paint 'that big' myself. This is really good. Tell me, do you scale up your brushes and use larger ones?

Lovely work and I assume they are bronze or bronzed castings. Are these Tunison pieces still available in the States? They seem to pop up occasionally, but I have always assumed they were confined to History?

Since Ron Tunison passed in 2013 they have become very collectible and hard to find. Occasionally an un damaged on will pop up on eBay at a ridiculous price.

Hi Len

As always you've done a fine job on the sculpture , bringing out the details well

Question ...what's the original sculpt made of before the paint ?

Thanks for sharing

Looking forward to seeing more

Have fun at the bench

I like your work, Len. Unexaggerated flesh tones and subtle paint work all over those uniforms and the Big Dog, Superb!

P.S. Given the subject matter, that's gotta be a fun paint in this scale, woof! I didn't know there were many options for Civil War era figures above 120mm.

Thanks Steve. I sometimes get intimidated by the unbelievable work that I see on this forum, but I have settled into my own style that I am happy with. My photography could be better, the pieces look a lot better in person.
