Dear fellow painters,

today I would like to present you a bust of the Greek manufacturer "Pathos Miniatures" which is obviously inspired by the character Jackson from the movie "Saving Private Ryan".
The resin bust is of a very good quality, perfectly casted and very detailed.

I have painted it with MC and Oils.

Before I show the pictures let me explain something, please:
The actor Barry Pepper is left-handed but the bust is carrying the rifle like a right-handed person. First I thought this was a manufacturers flaw or made to avoid copyright problems but the following screenshot shows that the position is correct:

Source: DVD "Saving Private Ryan", Dreamworks

This is due to the marching order: left row, muzzle to the outside.

The bust helmet comes without net. I made this one from fly screen.

What do you think, honestly?

I think you have made a nice job of painting this bust. The eyes are very piercing. I like what you did with the helmet net too. In my opinion the sculptor has made the hands too big - and the bulk and arrangement of the jacket and collar isn't right - but I guess it's not a copy of the film character but inspired by it.
Barry Pepper was great in this role, but I think he got a lot of flak for the bible quoting sharpshooter character being unoriginal. I liked it.
Cheers
Mat

Thanks for your kind words, Mat!
I agree with you abut the hands size. This was the first bust, Pathos sold. I think the proportions will become better with the next pieces.
Why shouldn't a sniper quote the bible repeatedly? The U.S. are full of strictly religious people using guns... OOOPS! Sorry! My second day here and I am already violating the rules - embarrassing!
Cheers

Another swipe at America.....how unusual. Rich coming from a German, Germans are the reason my Jewish friends own guns. Something about a Holocaust I think.....

OK, forget about it, pls. It wasn't at all meant as a serious political comment as I am fully aware that this would violate the forum rules.

But had to slip one in there anyway, no surprise Gerrie does not like Americans with firearms. Lol. Hey, it is fun right. The character was quoting the bible to come to grips with killing Germans who started a war. And sniping requires some spiritual help, even when shooting Nazis. LOL.

God`s support is always needed when you have to assure yourself that you are doing the right thing - maybe even more after you realized that the black-and-white images about you and your opponents don´t stand up to reality. The Germans had written "God (stay) with us" on their belt buckles in WW II btw.
And yes Steve - I am fully aware that we Germans are to blame for the second amendment in the US - already 150 years in advance you knew that we would justify the widespread posession of firearms one day.;):)
IMHO Pvt Jackson murmering quotes from the bible while shooting down Nazi-Germans is as close to reality as the whole storyline of the film. But it doesn`t surprise me that some people took offence in having the bible involved - political correctness etc I guess.

Great job on the eyes of the bust, Ulf!
The highlights and shadows on the bust in general could be increased but might be the pictures.
Cheers, Martin

No sweat - this is an international forum with focus on Hobby activities and musings about national stereotypes (like gunslingig calvinistic rednecks or us-bashing arrogant nazikrauts) should be kept on the lighter side. So, no fire at all and I am sure that my fellow hobbyist Steve agrees.... otherwise I will have to look "down the bore of his deadly fortyfour":D
As a newbie it is anyway smarter to avoid fires before you get to know the regular contributers to this forum more closely. So welcome again Ulf and carry on to display your nice work!
Cheers, Martin
