Dear All

I am setting up my own website dedicated to WW2 History told by the stories in my diorama's.

I have purchased a Domain name but I am at a loss as to what package I need for hosting?

I would like any members who have set up their own site which enables them to upload images, videos, stats counter etc, etc to help me decide what sort of package I need.

Is it always necessary to pay a monthly fee or are the free ones just as good.

I do everything with moonfruit.com. I pay for a domain and webhosting 11 pound a year. That's only for the domain, and hosting is free and alot of space to upload all my pictures on the site.

Yes, but used the template's....that works alot easyer then php or html yourself. That's time consuming.....with doensn't help you to make the dio's.
If you want my son is webdesigner he can make something for you (usual not for free)

I want to keep it as cost effective as possible as it's clearly for hobby/blog/info material only, I will not be advertising or selling anything.

It's pretty simplistic but I am unsure at what level I need for storage, transfer data etc.............it's a new world to me!

That whas my intention to. And i'm glad i did it that way.

That was it for me to. Untill know i never reached the level for storage.
If that is the point you get a email to upgrade your storage.

Look at the site I build and make your conclusion.
It works easy, it looks great and you get alot of cyberspace.

Most time the company were you bought the domain name also has possiblities for webpage hosting. The storage you get depends on the price you pay but is usually between 100 or 250 mb for 8 euros a year. This is the easiest option because you don't have to worry about hackers, firewall, virusscanner. Most of the time templates are available to make your life easier like Marc already mentioned.
The other option is to setup your own webserver. Therefore you have to install a webserver on a spare computer which is running day and night. For example apache server. Here you have to worry about security and the amount of data you generate but you will never have a data storage problem if you hard disk is big enough.

I purchsed the domain name from godaddy.com and it is parked there while I choose a host, so it might be easier to do it through them as its about £50 for 2 years.

They then have a webdesign service for about the same price and then you get the full package without any worries for virus, design, transfer etc so it looks like the best long term option as the site is bound to grow over time.
