Hi Phil,
Bad to hear about your problems with your back. I hope you are better now.
Your camel rider is looking great. I like your composition of this vignette.
Did you use for the sand base also the DAS-material?
What color did you paint the sand?
Again congrats to this wonderful scene.

Christian

Thank you very much Christian. My back is feeling better - thanks, but it's going to take weeks before I'll be comfortable enough to sit and paint for more than a couple hours at a time.

To create the desert on the base, I used this product here:

It's part of a new series of products from AK Interactive - they specialize in scale model weathering, terrain, and diorama products. I can recommend everything they make without reservations. They have some really top notch stuff. For the desert, I took a fairly large putty knife and just smoothed it out directly onto the base. (Kind of like putting icing on a cake actually...). Once I had the base covered, I used various washes of watered down burnt umber paint to give some overall shadowing to the surface. There is already sand in this paste, so it makes creating a desert terrain very simple - literally just scoop some out, apply it to the surface and let it dry.

Thanks again, and I hope this helps!

Regards,
Phil

I missed it for a long time but the result of this project is beautiful. I'm sorry for your injury and I hope it's better. It is a pity of the missing SBS, but health is superior, of course. Thanks for sharing, anyway ...

Cheers Borek ;)

Only just seen this, mainly as i was searching for "Dromadaire" for the RP model i purchased at SMW2018, This is an amazing piece of work.
