I like this one very much Geoff - the way you’ve shaded the tricorne hat is so realistic.
Will you be taking Isaac to BC?

Thank you Chris, pleased you like him.

I used the old Artist's oils dry-brushing technique on it, I seem to go back to "Old School" stuff as it works for me, I think.

Isaac will be at Bugle as he is a new one.

Cheers

Thanks very much for the reply, Geoff. I too used to like that technique in the days when I used oils & enamels exclusively, but had to switch to acrylics because the combined smells of turpentine & lacquer thinners were giving me a tight chest & bad cough. Nothing against oils users, it’s just that I can’t tolerate the fumes any more; the effects that could be achieved with them in figure painting were (& still are) magical though.
Looking forward to seeing you & your collection at BC at the end of the month!

I used to use enamels but found the same with my mild COPD even though I only used white spirit and not turps, etc.

I only use artist's oils on skin and a bit of dry-brushing which doesn't need the use of thinning agent.

I think my acrylic technique differs from normal as I don't seem to apply so many washes as I have seen other painters use but I think it works for me and I am pleased with the result.

We all have our own way of doing things, and after all it is your model so paint it how you like.

Cheers

Come on mate I don't bring that many, only what Helen and I can carry in one trip across the car park. ;)

We are looking forward to BC, such a lovely venue and hopefully more traders for figure painters.

Cheers
Geoff
