With my current projects all finished it was time to jump into my stash and come up with my next projects. One of them is Capt. Ahab from Green Monkey Models. This one is a very nice kit with a more than passing resemblance to the actor Gregory Peck who was Ahab in the 1956 movie, Moby Dick.
Without giving away any spoilers I remember seeing this as a kid and having nightmares Re: the ending! LOL

The kit comes in four resin parts and 1 metal rod which is part of the harpoon.
It doesn't come with a base, but I have something in mind for that.

The apparent inspiration

Everything base coated

Giving the smooth vest some texture = plus
Ugh the stripes on the shirt! o_O

Giving the face some attention

Finished it off by adding the hand and harpoon.
He's on a "borrowed" base for now, but his is being built.
Thanks for looking.

your painting is very good !

as a side note i wonder why the various companies are calling him Ahab when is name in the Melville Novel is AChab ...
and another point : Scale 75 didn't sculpt the horrible scar on their version, nor this one apparently ... while it's very well depicted in the book.

Also, in the movie(still) he's wearing a double breasted coat, but the sculpt has turned that into a waist coat..

But I agree, Kev has done a nice job. I'm looking forward to what he's planned for the base...

Hi Kev

Nice painting there the harpoon looks very sharp and the shirt stripes look good , this is a nice sculpt as well

Like Henk I too am intrigued about the base plans

Might be wrong but isn't that a scar under and above his eye on his left ?

Thanks for sharing

Why not enter Figure of the Month as well with a piece ?

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the kind words.

I guess with the Peck image it was more to show the good job the guy did with the likeness. But since it was mentioned I looked a little harder and found this -

And there's the real inspiration - except for no wind blown hair. There's a B&W one that's a little wider showing more of the harpoon (it's spot on). But you guys get the idea.
The pic also helps out with a few things - his tie is blue, not black, the buttons are silver, not blue, and oddly the stripes on his shirt go sideways over-his shoulder. There was a "seam" sculpted in an oddly, to me, spot. I guess this is where the stripes change from horizontal to vertical. I'll change the tie and buttons, but will be leaving the shoulder stripes alone. LOL (I'm not going thru that again so soon.) ;)

I have 2 ideas for the base. And I may even make both. You guys will be the first to see them.

Very nicely painted.

The original spelling in Melville's book is Ahab.
The translations into various languages have probably adjusted the spelling to suit the language.

Cheers,
Andrew

Thanks guys.
I'm pretty proud of this one - tho there's always room for improvement. :)

I think the buttons are blue, the second one from top looks silver, but I think that's the light.
