Carl, to steal a line from great Obi Wan, "The Vision is strong in this one".
The pose is heroic, and both the flag and the face will be seen in one glance - no looking up to the top of the pole, then back down to the man. You've forced the perspective and framed the scene. I love groundwork and scenery that sets the context and helps convey the story, but none of that is needed here. A simple base, a couple tufts of grass - the story is the man and his flag. Well done, Sir!
If pressed, I'll admit to a little trepidation on this one. This sculpt deserves a painter's very best effort. One must find a way to appease the patrons of pigment and sable before having a go at this one. The challenge is formidable, but the rewards . . .
