WIP Critique Cavalry Diorama- 1/2 Way There

Hey All,

This is one figure more or less completed for a diorama depicting KGL Light Dragoons countercharging French Cavalry towards the end of Ney's attack on the Allied Infantry On the afternoon of Waterloo.

I say this figure is more or less completed because I have still yet to tackle the reins and need to mount the scabbard. There are some touch ups required for some obvious chips after assembly. Also, as this is later in the battle, there will be extensive battle wear... mud, blood and fear!

I hope I have captured the look of panic in the eyes of both rider and horse as they come under flank attack from fresh troops. I have been planning the groundwork and intend to feature some discarded equipment and a broken cannon wheel and will try for the long rye in the field.

All comments or ideas are welcome.

PS- My poor photography has caused a more yellow tinge to the skin than in person CJ

Is this a conversion of the old "Airfix" 54mm French Cuirassier or some other model (Historex?) Look forward to seeing this progress. Well done mate!

Colin,what a great paint job,the pose of this figure really creates an insteresting battlescene.
btw,what color mix did you end up using for his tunic?

Daniel- The tunic is simple Dark Blue: Base- Prussian Blue + Black
Highlight- Base + Sky Grey
Shadow- Base + Black
It's the KGL Lt. Dragoon we spoke of before, I'm working on him now and am going with the blue like on your French drummer, the Royal Blue base. That should work.

Bingo! You hit the nail on the head there Colin. Any work that I have ended up rushing is simply not as good as those I have really taken my time over!

Great work so far. Now, if you can model an explosion nearby (perhaps with some acrylic resin and some of that fake smoke) and light the model from the explosion... .

Colin,i am very excited about this project as i am a huge waterloo fan,i will be following this one with great interest,i'm glad you mentioned the groundwork and thinking about the rye as i see this as being very important with waterloo subjects and is often overlooked,great start ,cant wait to see it finished

Peter... That's a cool idea, but in this case the horse is rearing because it's being attacked by another horseman. I do like that idea and now the wheels are turning... I see a cavalry charge under artillery fire!!!

Brian... Thanks for the interest, good to hear from another Waterloo fan, lots of situations for diorama subjects. As for the rye grass, I want to use the the long grass because that's what the field looked like in every painting of the battle. However, how I am to represent this is beyond me!!! If you or anyone out there have any ideas on how I can do this at 54mm scale and make it look real... I will be forever in debt.
