Hi all,
Now coming to the end of the year and with some new releases on the way I am taking stock of the range.
Unfortunately due to poor sales I have decided to withdraw the 200mm Black Watch.
The mould will be cast out and he will no longer be available from the website as of 31 December 2014.
In January I will look at the whole range, I want to continue to give high quality castings and so some other pieces will also be removed as we move forwards.
All the best
Gra

Thats a real shame Graham and A surprise I bought this at Euro and its a cracker of a figure I know 200mm isn't everyone's cup of tea but you really get a lot of figure for your money...half way through painting him now .....might have to get another to squirrel away for when everyone realises what they've missed on this one.....Kevin

Very handsome figure and I'd even be tempted except I don't do tartans.

Hopefully this announcement will have them flying off the shelves for you though on the basis that human nature being what it is, when something goes OOP everyone and his dog suddenly wants one!

Had the pleasure of seeing this at Euro....if I didn't have a phobia about 'tartans'....I would certainly have grabbed one.....a great surprise it didn't do better.....only thought is...the scale went against it.

Stand out for me was the bonnet....separate layers of feathers gave it so much depth (y)....and the white metal bayonet was a very nice touch.

A real shame to be reading this. Thought it would have been popular, especially with the Waterloo anniversary being next year.
I too have one, but it is a labour of love for me, being ex BW myself. Good to see a progress pic above from Funky50. Not anywhere near that stage myself but looking forward to seeing more pictures in the future.

Hi Barrie..... have been following your posts with regards the hackle and painting and like you really thought this would fly it really is a cracker of a figure but I love anything Waterloo and Scottish so was a must have for me only hope it will be anywhere near as good as your work (I'm a fan of yours and Gellso painting styles) ....Kevin

Rather than cast out this figure, I would suggest that it has plenty of conversion potential, as with your Crimean Lancer. Small changes can change the appearance of a fiure more than might be thought (see http://www.planetfigure.com/threads/foxwood-figures-200mm-ww1-grenadier-guards.67835/) e.g. conversion to a First Foot Guards figure or to another Scottish regiment would be simple.

It would be a shame to bin such a figure et. I would wait & see.

Thanks for all the comments, it's a gamble we take and we always have to be prepared. Needless to say I won't be adding legs to any future busts lol. The truth is Mike it shows you can never tell and to be honest with moulding such a big piece 200mm it is not a gamble I am prepared to take again even with changes to a different.

There may of course be many reasons, busts are a different game and there may be potential there although it will be different to this piece.
All the best

Hi Gra,
saw this figure for the first time. So hopefully your announcement will help advertise it among interested people. 200mm does not scare me away from a figure and I like Napoleonics. While I admire the restless output of Moz always maintaining a high standard I sometimes can´t see what the pose is about - as is the case with this one. Still a very nice sculpt but I would consider to reposition the neck and maybe the angle of his arms as a customer.
I keep my fingers crossed that you carry on with legged busts and that they will sell. - What about a "gentleman in Khaki" or "another (napoleonic) German":D?
Cheers mate!

What a shame this is being withdrawn. I don't do Tartans but feel that I should grab one,if only to Bronze it, or use the upper half as a bust, which is easy to do the way it's cast in segments. It's beautiful and with the Waterloo anniversary coming, yes I need one .

Gra,

Obviously a sound business decision and one which I am sure we all respect you for doing , sometimes gambles do not come off

Looking forward to 2015 with CGS

Best wishes

Nap

It does seem to make sense, and I think that is the avenue to go down. Shame, as it is a nice piece.
It would appear that I might not be alone in reckoning 200mm might be a bit too big for a full figure.

I really appreciate all your support, my last post on this but a big thank you, I am not disheartened. I have a strong range I feel and plenty to come, it is just some pieces you have to admit to yourself don't work, all experience :) better to pull the plug early and mould new pieces than cast off year old moulds in the hope of a sale, something I always said I would never do.
My sincere thanks as always

Gra its a hard call to make this but the right one.

Unfortunately in the market place today new releases dont last long and those that are deemed surplus to demand cannot be carried. Moulds deteriorate and quality drops off which is not what its about for us.

I have quite a few of these "unwanted" pieces in my ranges and like you will be culling the herd for want of a better phrase. The age of the demand limited figure has arrived.

Speak soon

Stuart

I totally agree with Stu!
The shelf life of a piece is short lived these days! You will always have the classics the sell through and have an extended life span. 200mm pieces definitely magnify this.

Sadly Gra , i think the right decision has been made mate.
200mm are always a slow seller, as are tartans, and when you have both ingredients it unfortunately makes for a real tough sell.

Onward and upward mate!

Carl

I luv 200 mm with my eyes they are a godsend, I have a number of them, and they look impressive. But I know a lot of guys don't have the room to display, and Carl is dead right, people do shy away from tartans. It's the same with mediaval heraldry, that's a no go area for me as well.
