Although my main interest is still the Great War, I was fascinated by these paintings and one bronze by an artist that I'd never heard of - Charles Schreyvogel. He painted later than Russell and Remington and never actually saw the "wild frontier", but made trips there later and apparently it seized him. From what I can tell, he painted US Western and Cavalry themes for the rest of his life. Just thought I'd share. The top left is his best known and is titled, "My Bunkie, Finished". The bronze is titled, "The Last Drop". He has a great sense of action and pose, doesn't he?

All the best,
Dan

From what I am seeing, he was easily as good as Remington and Russell, thank you for bring him to our attention (or at least mine). That is one of the things I love about these forums, I get to discover artists I've never heard of before, which helpd me to buildd my art history library
