Hi,

color suggestion wanted for a Chasseur a cheval 1806 figure.

Oil's and or acrylics. Specialy the greens for the Dolman en the Crimson red for the trousers.. Base, shadow, highlights etc...

grts Stefaan

I painted a chasseur recently in acrylics (see my vBench). Andrea do a colour called Napoleonic Green which I used for the dolman. Add black and white to the mix to shade and highlight.

You could try this, it worked for my Chausseur a Cheval. Colours are Vallejo acrylics...

Chasseur Green:

Base- 970 Deep green + 875 Beige brown + 950 Black
Highlight- Base + 970 Deep green + 955 Matt flesh
Shade- Base + 950 Black

Red:

Base- 908 Carmine red
Highlight- 908 Carmine red + 845 Sunny skin tone
Shade- 908 Carmine red + 926 Red

These Mixes worked well for me, hope it helps for your project.

Best Luck(y)

Is your Chasseur line or Garde, the latter is a bit darker if you look in the reference section above the adds ,look in the museum part, there are plenty of
french greens there all real so you can't go wrong.
Permanent green deep W/N is a good starting point for your mid tone.

Its a 12e regiment. i think its a Line. The kit is the Pegaso 75-025 offering.
But the Perm deep green tip is noted (y)

Edward, you did a great job.

thx for the tip.
btw how did you make the "14"? Just painted?

cheers. Stefaan

I prefer to mix my own greens and avoid them straight from the tube as Ive always had problems with the finish having a sheen. To achieve a matt finish undercoat with a similar Humbrol. I mix greens from Inigo, lemonn yellow or cadmium yellow and/or blue-black. To reduce the value add a bit of red. I would suggest a highlight of Titanium white[ very sparingly] and use a yellow such as Mars yellow added to the base on your palette. Pure white turns the green to a faded minty look!

Just experiment with these colours to get a dark green.

Thanks Stefaan. The '14' is painted freehand. I only used shades of grey for the lace, no silver.
