Re: Old Man Bust x2

Hi Alex,

the second try is a better approach for the fabrics of the blouse.
Still I think the folds might be sharper , try to indicate some stresspoint starting from top shoulder where it's flawless, maybe some vertical wrinkles added starting from there?

capture yourself in a blouse in this position.

good luck,

ARene

I was trying to imagine where and what type of folds to add to that area

If its a tighter fitting shirt they should be stretch folds but I cant seem to add any without making it look too wrinkled

I need to adjust the sharp fold in the top center of his back however, that may help me

Maybe Ill try and get some photos and see if they help at all

Thanks!

Alex

Re: Old Man Bust x2

for very fine folds you can also roll tiny parts of putty which, attached to the surface of the blouse, look realistic.

as be seen here in the trousers( early works :) )

edit them with thinner and brushed in sharper shape.

hope this helps....

Re: Old Man Bust x2

I'm glad you liked my idea of a Chelsea Pensioner. Coming out very well,

Re: Old Man Bust x2

@Rene, I adjusted some folds, went a bit sharper, definitely see what you mean, still errors in my folds but I will leave it and move on to the next figure

@TWOMOONS, I looked at a few, debated it and said, what the heck! Its a simple uniform and the old guys have character!

For this guy the only thing left is the one arm and then the front of the collar and buttons

Much better, I like it !
However I think that the hands are too thick...his left one is almost two times wider than it should be. It may be the angle of the photo, but check the measurements anyway ;)

You are right for sure, it was one of those things where it was going right going right then I look back and wonder how it got there!

Ive gone back to adjust his arms and back more...

I will be done soon :)

I know EXACTLY what You mean ;)
I was adding, and adding, and adding to the girl I curently working on, and when Finally check the measurements, I ended up with removing almost half of the volume from the torso and hips :):)

Well, I slimmed him down, pushed his one arm in to make the big compression fold make more sense, and im redoing his back.... again :p

Started the head for the other old man, and found I needed to adjust a few things on the torso with magic sculpt, bulked chest a bit, tried to make the shoulder appear more proper and adjusted the back of the right arm to balance size with the folded one

IMG_0191.jpg

Still more shaping to do but its coming along... Ive had a hard time deciding if the head is too big or not... the measurements seem to line up for me but something seems off... maybe its because the other old man's head is smaller than it shoulder be

Canada: dix points pour le premier buste!!
Tremendous expression!

the wooden block, isn't it getting in you way when working on the folds, Alex?

I would have provided a steady base for the torso, like his represental naked body and baked.
Then I would have applied thin pieces of clay, this way your folds are never too deep and you can search for stresspoints ( admitted, in Pokrads case a feelgood job to do :) )

I really prefer a simple round toothpick ( which mistakenly got this name, good toothpicks are triangular so they perfectly fit between teeth and flesh).
Search for connection between each fold.
And don't overdo it! Also partitions without any wrinkle cause attractive contrast.

but really, the expression in the old man with the head slightly turned is great!

Haha, hopefully its not the last bust either!

and yes, it was my mistake that lead to having the piece built right into the block of wood

I will have to do that next time, it makes much more sense.

I use a bunch of different tools, one is similar to a tooth pick

The expression will be interesting, I think I finally figured out the issue I was having with the eyes, now its just finishing the forming and keeping that expression!

Ok, so old man bust is baked, everything is complete minus the one part of his collar I need to add in epoxy.

The shirt is still too big and there are some errors here and there but overall Im pleased with the result

The folds were completely redone on just about everything to be much more realistic than the previous versions!
