Hello all,

This is a Colour Sgt, Coldstream Guards, 1897, sculpted by the late Sid Horton - I'm not sure exactly how long ago, 20-25 years (?). In my opinion this is one of the all time classic kits. There's so much character in the face and pose - it conveys the look of the formidable NCO perfectly.

It looks like a fairly simple figure to paint but I personally found the white coat a real challenge - this is actually my second attempt at this kit, I completely messed up the jacket on the last one I bought. Because it's a parade ground uniform the coat must be kept fairly "white" which I find particularly tricky to paint - I tried to avoid over-shading it and turning it light grey.

I'm at about the mid way point - I'm going to paint his hands and stick next, and then the trousers which are dark blue.

All comments welcome - hope you like it so far!

Edward, I agree it was one of the best pieces in their product line. It's amazing the quality of sculpting still holds up to today's standards.~Gary

I too have to agree, this figure is a classic. I wish someone had been able to pick it up when Chota Sahib went under. Great flesh tones BTW.

Very nice work on a real classic. He's looking very good so far Edward, keep those pictures coming, looking forward to the rest of the paintwork.

All the best..Roy.

Top stuff Ed. Learn from the previous @#*& up and you'll have a top figure there mate. Love the skintones on the face. A bet those itty-bitty little uniform details that are a trademark of Chota Sahib are fun to paint as well!
Give it the time it deserves and you'll have a winner there ;)

Thanks for the feedback and kind comments! I've noticed a few flaws in those unforgivingly large photos which I've corrected. I think I'll reduce the size next time. I'll post some more photos when he's finished.

It's great to see this Sid Horton figgie being painted. I am a big fan of the Chota Sahib figures and started to collect them for my grey army a couple years ago.
This one along with the Lord Cardigan are my favs. (y)
