This a 54mm figure of the 1920's film star Clara Bow. The figure is produced by Kings Road Miniatiures. It is part of their Silver Age Icon line. The figure is cast in white-metal. I have painted it with oils, acrylics, and Humbrol enamels. The figure is pinned through the foot and is m currently mouinted on aa XATCO knife handle for painting. I have to mount the figure yet on a base. I am not sure of how to mount her. I will probably make a wooden, oak grained dance floor. I was attracted to the figure by the pose. This is not a routine military figure, but one I thought would be fun and interesting.

She looks great. This is the frist one I have seen painted. I have not had time to finish any of our other figures I have a Cal Rogers and Katharine Stinson more then halfway finished on my desk at work. The only one that I have finished is Jimmy Doolittle. Please send us a photo of the finished figure. We would like to start a Gallery on the web site and our facebook page.

I am very fond of your products. I shall buy the whole line from your UK distributor Steve Kirtley.

Look fwd to learning and seeing more about this silver icon line. Such great tastes in the subject choice. And solid likeness too, which is natural considering the big names involved.

Nice work, Ed!

I'd go with the polished wood dance floor for the 'It Girl'.

Bring that bad girl to the meeting on the 18th!

I picked this one up at SCAHMS, along with the Howard Hughes figure, but have yet to start her (heck I haven't picked up a brrush since the show). Nice Job Ed. How did you decide on the color of the dress? I agree Jim go with a polished wood floor. I think I will probably use one of the new floor sets from Reality in Scale when I get around to her.

Jeff,

Thanks. Like Matt, I also got her and Howard Huges at the last SCAHMS show. Howard will be in a couple of months after I finish up another project in the que.

Jim,

Yes, I intend to be there, with her. Take a look on my gallery on the T.L. forum and you can see what else I am currently working on, which I will also bring to the next meeting (provided work doesn't get in the way.)

Matt,

Did some research on the era on the internet and see they wore a lot of different colors. I was originaly going to paint the dress white, which was a popular color, but after seeing the base coat it did not have enough color appeal. The white washed out the light light flesh tones of Clara. Had some Humbrol Orange Facings so I decided to use that. I like the texture of Humbrol enamels for clothing better than oils or acrylics in many cases.

Michael,

I don't think you will be dissapointed with the figures. The sculpting is great and the casting is very crisp.

Well I do not want to hijack Ed's thread, but I can tell you we have two more Silver Age Icon figures in the works. Rémy is working on a 20's era heart throb, and Mike Good has agreed to do a famous band leader for us. That is all I will say for now. ;-)

Thanks Ed, I did the same, but most of what I found seemed to be modern repro stuff, but what the heck. I never got the hang of Humbrols, I like the effect you have achieved. BTW, I think this is the easiest of the Kings Road releases to come up with a setting. I have most of their other figures and with the exception of the Katherine Stintson figure, they are stting in their boxes while I decide on settings.

How comes the Clara Bow kit is available for purchase (in a show) but not displayed in the official website?

I really can't wait. I love the pilot line and I know I will love the icon line too. Just wish to learn about them more asap.

Well the SCAHMS show is right in our backyard so to speak so we have taken the newest figures to it for the past two years. We should have Clara and Wild Bill up on the web this week.

Ed as far a a critique. I think over all the figure looks really good. One thing that might make it look better would be to add one more light highlight to the fringe in higher areas like the raised leg and the top of the chest. Hopefully you get the idea. It may be there, sometimes it is hard to see in photos.

Jeff,

I agree. I still have to deal with that elemnt and her shoes (which do not show up well in the photo). And then some finals highlight points.

Ed

I just thought I would let you know that i am going to make a bases for all of our figures and will be doing one for Clara which will be a wood dance floor. Anyone who bought the figure at the SCAHMS show who wants one just let me know and I will send you one. I may do a base for the figure I will paint and if I do I will post images here on the site. This is a Chaplin figure I did years ago. I am going to do Clara's dance floor like this.
