I like!

Claus & Tom I think.

Historically wrong:
The bust shows "Schauffenberg" with the rank insignia of an "Oberst im Generalstab". (two stars on braided epaulettes) He received this rank on 1 July 1944. Since his serious wounds in Africa on April 7, 1943 in which he lost his left eye, he wore an eye patch.

Likeness wrong:
Likeness with Tom Criuse and not with the historicalls Stauffenberg.

Cheers

Nice one here!

Regarding the likeness, to me it's pretty obvious that the version on the right is supposed to depict the "historical" Stauffenberg, whilst the version on the left Mr Cruise as Stauffenberg. So, two versions possible: one for Hollywood Fans, one for the ones who love historical accuracy.

And there Martin might have a point. Since the torso probably is the same, and hence the insignia and marks are identical, the right version should wear an eyepatch which it doesn't. But only if Martin is right about the insignia, which I can't tell since I am not an expert...

Cheers

Martin is correct. An eye patch is a relatively easy addition although getting a realistic indent from the band across the forehead will be a bit more work.

I look forward to seeing what awards he is wearing. The collar of the tunic carries the dress piping shown on Cruise's visit to the Berghof in Valkyrie. Stauffenberg did not wear that on July 20 and he did wear the eye patch, at least when he returned to the Bendlerstrasse, not a glass eye (per Ewald von Kleist-Schmenzin, the last eye witness, who sadly passed last year).

I will eat a bit if crow and say that the real Stauffenberg version of this bust is better than I previously thought based on the profile shown above. I have borrowed one of Pekka's photos from WE to illustrate.

I still have reservations on the accuracy of the facial depiction of Claus but it's clearly not Tom Cruise. Great paint job as expected.

Given his Oberst rank and the fact that he wears the wound badge in gold, this is a post-wounding 1944 portrait. I really wish Nuts Planet had done the eye patch version. Adding a patch to this would be a b*tch given the need to pass the strap across his forehead and through his hair. Also the collar piping would have to go for a July 20 version.

If anyone wants to have a go at this, Stauffenberg's hair was dark brown and his eyes were grey blue.

Thanks Colin!

Okay, from that angle it does not look like Tom Cruise. The likeness to Stauffenberg is not so great, unlike his Cruise, which is pretty much dead-on. But my sympathies are with the sculptor. I just did a google image search on Stauffenberg. I found lots of photos, and he looks slightly different in each one. I know I have encountered this problem on several occasions. It is a situation that always puts a portrait sculptor in a quandary.....

My thoughts exactly. Marketing lesson. Show your product properly in the initial release ad. :)
