Hi,

I am gizmo, and I restart figure after a break of 6 years. After few test
(not very good) I start my first full figure. It's a caporal from the union troops,
in 120 mm to verlinden.

I have start by the head.

Any critcs are welcome. And sorry for my poor english

Your figure is off to a nice start. actually the "Clich Rifles" was a unit from georgia, and therefore a Confederate unit.~Gary

I am surprised... In the box art, the uniform is blue.... and I have ever think that the union troops are in blue and the confederate are in grey !!!!

So the cap is false, are not blue but grey :( :(

No the colors are right. Early war uniforms show some Confederate units wearing blue and there were some Union units that wore gray.~Gary

Usually I don't like Verlinden figures that much (too stiff and unnatural for my taste), but i like the face on this one. Which ref. is it? I can't seem to find it on their website.
That's a nice skintone you got there! Is it oil painted? I'd add the following:
- check your painting for the hairline: on the left side, there's a strand of hair that doesn't seem painted and still show the fleshtone underneath(the very first one), and on the right side it looks as though the brown paint smudged the ear a bit.
- IMHO, the white of the eyes is a little too bright. I'd suggest you tone it down just a bit.
- don't hesitate to put a bit more contrast in the hair and around the eyes :)
welcome back in the bidness! ;)

Good start after so long away!!!!

just to agree with Yarok do not hesitate to paint more shadows around the eyes. As well as you can paint with black a thin line on the top of the eye for the eyelashes!!!

keep up the good work!!!

thanks for your reply, and advice

Actually it's painting with oil. For the eyes and shadows , it's for the moment my weak point.
But I work it ;)

For the reference it's the number 1375 "caporal 5th georgia infantry"

:)

I have several references showing the "Clinch Rifles" in green uniforms, a style relating back to the Napoleonic era of the British 95th Rifles and mirrored by Berdan's sharpshooters. Further, if it were from a typical Union trooper, the kepi would be a very dark navy blue, borcering on black, unless it was an officer of the several Zouave units or possibly an artillery officer.
