May I present one of FeR miniatures most recent releases, Col. E.E. Ellsworth painted up in my usual "style" of oils over acrylic. A fascinating character from the American Civil War, Col. Ellsworth was the first fatal casualty of the war, killed as he had just finished removing a Confederate banner from a courthouse (?) in Virginia. He was Abraham Lincoln's legal secretary before the war and was one of the men who was instrumental in raising of the Tiger Zouave regiment. I hope I got the story right, I had looked it up and found the story really interesting, but I'm going from memory here. In any case, according to all of the portraits FeR has really captured the likeness. It's a wonderful figure to paint, and I'm only sorry my photography has washed out some of the contrasts, especially in the face. I included one old timey back and white photo just for the sake of historical comparison.

Very nice and neat work.

Cheers,
Andrew

P.S. The building was the Marshall House Inn (or Hotel) of Alexandria, Virginia.

Thanks Andrew, I knew it was a pretty significant building. I understand that prior to the outbreak of hostilities, Ellsworth and Lincoln could see the Confederate banner from across the Potomac River, which was perhaps why he was inspired to go up there and take it down when his regiment moved into Alexandria.
