Here is my 99% finished 120mm Warriors’ portrait of Colonel (later General) John B. Gordon as he may have appeared as Colonel of the 8th Alabama at the Battle of Sharpsburg (or as the Union called it – Antietam) on September 17, 1862. Gordon stands thinking of the day to come at the commencement of battle, an engagement in which he would suffer five gunshot wounds (two to his leg, one to his arm, one to the shoulder, and one to his face). The sculpture is clearly inspired by a limited edition print by noted (or perhaps notorious) civil war artist Don Troiani. The Warriors figure was withdrawn from circulation when Troiani threatened legal action for breach of copyright – he objected to the conversion of his 2D idea into a 3D model for someone else’s financial benefit. I can see his point but I think he was wrong, both legally and practically.

I will add some green to the base next week and I just realized that I missed his sword grip. I need to check hm over for other missed stuff but he is basically done.

The model is painted in various acrylics, combined with significant use of water based inks. Photos are in natural light and the contrast is a little harsh.

It’s a great figure that has been in my grey army for a long time. I’m glad I finally dragged him out and finished him off.

Great paintwork ......and interesting fact as to why this figure was withdrawn from sale

Thanks Zeno, Funky and Filipe. Good luck on yours Filipe. I tried mine 3 previous times over the last decade and in each case gave up and stripped him. This time there was no problem. :)

Great work Colin of the West.
The (almost) finished product is fantastic, but I have to say I enjoy how you present your work as a very detailed SBS. I love to watch a piece progress from primed to complete... I find it entertaining and more importantly, educational. By watching your last two pieces develope (and picking your brain) I've picked up some interesting tips and techniques that I can't wait to put into practice.

Look forward to your next project... Perhaps an SBS sculpt? Pretty please?

Again, fantastic job

I endorse the ChaosCossack post and add that the General Dallaire deserves another sculpt, this time with commercial release, and the number one is already reserved to me. (y)

Great paintwork Colin.(n)
I remember that old Troiani saga, and I agree that he wouldn't have had a legal leg to stand on with regards to any court action.

Pete - God is on the side of the biggest battalions....of lawyers!

Thanks to Ken, Marc, Nick, Tony and brother Colin for your comments too.

I would love to have another shot at Dallaire one day Filipe. We shall see when as its probably a retirement project.

Not sure what is next Colin. I have Stormtroopers 1/9th Somme Tyneside Irish Bombing Officer bust primed and syaing "paint me!" I also have an Andrea 54mm HenryVIII underway as a gift for my friend, a big Tudors fan. And you are right that I need to sculpt something to try out the new stock of MS.

Perhaps several projects in parallel?
