I hear people talking about shading/highlighting with comps colours so to get this straight here's an example tell me if I am right or wrong. I have a colour wheel and select yellow as my base colour according to the wheel the comp colour is violet and then it lists the tint, I am assuming this means highlight, tone don't know what that means, and shade. According the wheel, yellow should be shaded with a dark violet?

Thats generally the idea. There's others on here who can add more - Einion will be able to add plenty, but he's not back to the 16th.......enjoying more of american hospitality!

You are correct, Talino. Shade yellow with violet. "Tint" is adding white to the color, "tone" is adding black.

When I shade I use the primary complimentary color as the additive (ignore the tint and tone) and then add white or a darker shade to that mix, if need be. Sometimes it's not quite intuitive, as with many earth tones a good compliment is prussian blue.

I have a list of the complimentary colors somewhere that I use for reference when I get stuck. I'll see if I can dig it out and post it. Once you get the hang of this, you will see a big difference in your figures.
