Hi Bob.
Good painting, and excellent eyes. Really stunning eyes.
The base is a great and cheap idea, but i think is a bit big for this bust, and works better with 1/10.
About the painting, the only thing i'll do is to profile the rivets of the helmet (i think rivet is the word for the golden parts of the jaw) and put a little more of shadow at the helmet.

Very good eyes and nicely painted all over. In my opinion a bit more shadowing on the cloak could help (but it is very difficult to evaluate by photo).

Bob as said the base might be a tad big but perhaps part of the problem is it's so light in colour it distracts the eye.
You could try spraying it matt black which will naturally draw the focus to the bust.

I am not very good with taking close up photo's, the shadow is a bit light as I did not want to over do it. I will have another go.

I will give anything a go Del, cracking good idea, I think it might also be, that the brass rod is too short.
