This is my APG (Artist Preservation Group) donation for this year. It's a relief sculpture of a Confederate cavalry bugler. It is based on a painting by Keith Rocco who has kindly given his permission to reproduce it in sculpted form. It measures in at 3" high.

Gary, You've chosen a very good subject, and are developing your own work of art here. It's informative to see your process - thanks for taking the extra time and effort to share this with us. I have no doubt this will be a popular subject, and will help to further the APG's mission! Don

Indeed.Gary has been one of many who has been generous with their time and talents. His first 2 reliefs, Rev War cavalryman William Washington and Light Horse Harry Lee, where very popular. I can't wait to get this one in rubber and available for sale. Thanks Gary.

I'm still blocking in all the main parts of the painting. Detail work will come last. The Sculpey is fairly soft and is like sculpting with butter at times. The bugle and sword blade will be made separately.

Thanks for the comments fellas. The sculpture went out in the mail this morning, so the chance is pretty good it'll be at MFCA. Carl, The horn does look a bit flat in the photo, but it does have some depth to it. Don't forget that you can do quite a bit to create the illusion of depth when painting. ~Gary
