Hey all,

Just started a new one... just the head so far.

It's the 75mm Confederate Officer (will be painted as an artillery officer).

The pics aren't great but I'm working on ito_O. Have at it... be gentle:notworthy:

More shots coming as I finish them.

Cheers
Colin

Can anyone explain why my paint texture looks so grainy in the pics but much smoother to the naked eye? Is the lighting and zoom showing me something that I can't see while I'm working, and if so, what is the problem and how do I fix it.

I'm using Vallejo as thinned out as I can, if anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them.

Thanx in advance

It may be gritiness from the primer (not an uncommon issue if you're using Citadel), or depending on your palette you may be picking up some tiny bits of dust or something? Hard to tell. You might wanna try using an optivisor, but the truth is if you can't see it with the naked eye, is it a big issue for you?

The eyes look great!

Thanks Greg

I guess your right about the naked eye thing:) just wished the pics turned out better.
As for primer, I do use citadel... can u suggest a better alternative before I prime the Lancer... really don't wanna mess that one up.

Thanks again
Colin

The citadel primer is great, and some folks swear by it. But it can sometimes spray a little grainy, even when you're doing it properly. Maybe temp. and humidity affect it? I dunno, not a scientist.

I wish I could still get floquil primer, it was my favourite but I can't seem to find it anymore. Lately I've been using humbrol or tamiya light grey, and recently picked up bottled vallejo primer which I airbrush (It has an incredibly smooth coat). Those are some options.

I can't help on the photography front I'm afraid Colin. For all my priming I use auto rattle cans. Much cheaper, and I've never had any problems. I would have a look at his left eye, it looks a bit further around from the right one.

Greg,

I'll be by the shop Friday... I'll bring the head (on a pike!!) and you can have a live eye at it.
See ya then:coffee:

Carl,

You actually use automotive spray primer? Never heard that before (that's why I visit here!!!), I'm guessing grey... Certainly not that awful red-brown. Are you talking about something like Krylon acrylics or an automotive enamel?

I'm intrigued.... tell me more
Colin
