Hi everyone i am looking for some help with the painting of my new figure, the figure is 200mm by Maurice Correy and i have never painted any figures from this era, so any help with uniform colours would be a massive help, all the best roy.
One of the advantages of it being a Confederate is you have a great lee way in picking colours as they were by and large a lot less uniform than the Union. contrary to popular belief they weren't all in grey either heres a random selection of re-enactment pics which will give you a ground base of colours and styles to work from

Given the shell jacket he's wearing and that he's 1st Virginia Cavalry, you probably should stay close to mid gray jacket and trousers with a black hat, collar, epaullettes, cuffs and chest braids.
. This was J.E.B. Stuart's elite unit and would likely have had a better maintained uniform, particularly as depicted here. His riding boots could be brown or black and other leathers are black. Saddle would have been brown leather and the gloves off white leather
