Hi all just to say that the box art is now ready for our Continental Line Inf Bust. Gerard did an outstanding job bringing Carls bust to life.

The bust is available now through our web site www.elliesminiatures.com

Thank you for looking

Excellent subject: American War of Independence figures are rarer than Diamonds, and equally precious!

Fantastic miniature ... just like wines, it's a 2014 vintage Reid, period! What's more to say! ... it's going right away to the Christmas cart! :)

Cheers guys thanks for the kind words it was a good team effort (Carl & Gerard).

Ian

Now that's a bit good (y)

Beautiful sculpting and painting. Another one added to the wish list.

I am very conflicted by this offering. AWI is my favorite period. The painting and sculpting of this offering are both excellent. But it is just such a shame that the mustache was included.
Yes, I have seen the photo that was chosen as the model for Carl to follow. Carl rendered a wonderful likeness of the reenactor depicted, and Gerard has brought the bust to life with his brushes. Everything is almost perfect . . . except that little detail about General Washington's standing order that all members of the Continental Army were to be clean shaven. Is it possible that there was ONE soldier who was allowed to keep facial hair - especially a 'stache as glorious as the one depicted? I suppose it is. But for me, the mustache should not be there.
I'll accept that the "alternate head" option is probably not viable, from a commercial point of view. I'll also accept that I may be in the significant minority here.
Will I purchase this bust? Undoubtedly. Will I then commit the sacrilege of attempting to alter one of Carl's masterpieces? Most likely! :)

Hi Don

I understand your feelings but not being an expert in AWI we went with the photo we thought would make the best bust. as far as we knew it would be ok we could have put him in the French Indian wars my be that would be an option for you. or has BT has said you could always give him a close shave.

It's a beautiful bust and we are very proud of what we do but we can not get another head so just put it like this he may have been one of an exception to the rule and was out in the field and did not get the order to shave and had a good officer who turned a blind eye to it. who knows that could be the case but we will never know.

thanks for all the great comments

Great "joint venture" Ian and Gerard. I wish you all the best.

Cheers,
Pedro.

A well done bust. If the moustache is incorrect for Continental Line, maybe he could be painted as a Hessian, a Frenchman, or maybe American militia.

I'm with Don on this one, all the way. I do like the idea of changing the nationality of the subject, that seems an acceptable alternative. It is another masterpiece from Carl in my opinion overall

Ian, I agree that it is an excellent bust, and I understand the process that resulted in the commission of the sculpt from Carl. What we do is, after all, an artistic endeavor - based on historical "fact", in many cases - but still creative and conjectural to a large degree.
I am glad that Ian and Carl have brought this piece to the marketplace. I would much rather have this half-figure available, with a possible historical inaccuracy, than to not have it at all!

Thank Don we do try, sometimes we are right and sometimes we go a little off track to bring a piece to life. But as long as you folks keep wanting what we do then we will try and bring that piece of history to life.
