Considering what happened to the Cossacks after 1945, serving the Nazis was never going to end well..............

I'm not absolutely sure, but I believe the Konovov's uniform in the plate is the tropical version used to the DAK troops. Open neck, olive drab colour, eagle over kaki cloth.....

Hi there

Going to go for this uniform DAK ...currently base coated in a sandy brown ...what colour mix would be good for the uniform

All mixes welcome ! ...acrylics

Thanks

Hi to everyone

Couple of update pics on the 2nd Cossack

Finished the Iron Cross and star , uniform colour finished...for now!!! , though might revisit it once all badges are done

Added a Cossack proficiency badge above the shiled, in a regulation gold although sometimes silver NCO tresse was also used as in German collar edging

Hi Nap!

This is Major General Ivan Nikitovich Kononov, Commander of the 5th Don Regiment, XV. Cossack Cavalry Corps...:

This painting is the template for your bust...:

But he wore a special Cockade...:

This one (of the Don Cossacks) ...

...but with a white St. Andrews Cross of fabric over it...:

Kononov was executed (hanged) for treason 1946 in Moscow.

All right - the ribbon bar...:

Very hard to recognize - but I think I've found them all ...:

These are all German awards for valor and bravery, which were awarded to so-called "Ost-Freiwillige" (Eastern Volunteers).

An interesting couple of busts mate, interesting seeing them develop.

Geoff

Hi Geoff

They are interesting subjects , just admit prefer something a bit more colourful ....like you with Red tunics !!

All details now done , ribbons, badges , epaulettes ...so ....

Just the flesh to do !!

Thought the legend bust would be better to work on but should look okay when finished !!

Thanks for looking in
