the work is still in progress because it takes time to dry the resin to make the water

Can I ask what kind of resin you're using?
I normally use "Magic Water" from Unreal Details;
http://www.internettrains.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=URD-100&Category_Code=

But I've found that it takes ages to begin setting, around 12 hours, and once started it then sets very quickly, leaving not much time to add details such as ripples, etc....

I think I'll try messing around with the proportions of resin to hardner (catalyst?) next time I use the stuff.
