Still struggling with, and trying to develop 54mm, painting skills. Had an IPMS show and contest a few weeks back and thought it would be a good incentive to get a kit or two completed.

I also wanted to try a figure, a big figure, and a different paint scheme.

Very enjoyable and a huge relief to finish a project (while six others sit and wait for me to get my butt in gear).

had another look, I think that this is perfect to try quite a few techniques that can be translated into smaller scales.
You could try some very subtle washes to bring in some colour contrast without losing the overall gey base.
