Hi,

I would like to know if anyone knows what symbols were on the canteen of the Grenadier Guards and their meaning.
I kmow I've read it somewhere but can't pinpoint it at the moment.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Paulo

Paulo - the water canteens in the Crimean War were painted dark grey or light blue with B O stamped or stencilled with an upward pointing arrowhead. The BO stood for Board of Ordnance. Some regiments may have had other things stencilled or painted on, but these were not standard.(y)

Hi Paulo.
As Per Valiant & Nap has said. The B O water bottles were purchased by the Government. Bottles purchased by the Regiments would have their Regimental No & Battalion No branded on to it. it ie 1st GG for 1st Btn Grenadier Guards .
