Currently I am painting an Elf from black sun. I really like this one and I am approximately halfway with it.

For more pictures and step by step you can look it up at www.minipainting,se where I have 4 post in a blog regarding this figure.

I have worked with a different light then I usually do. the effect I am looking for is that the sun is rising and the light comes from the front and backside is in shadow.

Suggestions for improvement is much appreciated and thoughts around composition since I generally build any bases like this before.

Hi John

That's a fantastic debut on this forum mate. Well done. The light effect you're describing is known as OSL - Object Source Lighting, and its a paint effect that more and more miniature artists are trying. It's probably best used when artificial lighting is being represented, but a low sunrise is an interesting choice. I'll be following your progress with interest.
