Hi everyone

Of course we all know it’s the 80th Anniversary of D Day on 6th of June

I would like to suggest we have a small ongoing thread where you can all share your related builds depicting this , any model, any scale

Why not also share any interaction you might have had with the sadly diminishing heroes , with pics , quotes , anything related

Let me know and I will set something up

How about a small competition along the lines of the recent western and the Napoleon ones………anything D Day related? To close on the 1st June, voting then to take place with the results announced on the 6th (the actual anniversary)?

this should be amazing,I was there in 2019 with the family, and have a lot of pictures from veterans, museum,
and a lot more ,I also have talked there with veterans who was there on the D-Day landings, this is something
I never gonna forget.

I remember the 40th anniversary in 1984 being a massive deal, and for those of us of a certain age it's scary to think that we're now as far away from 1984 as 1984 was from 1944 .

The older you get the faster the years just seem to fly by, and given that the youngest surviving D-Day veterans are now in their late 90s, it won't be long before it passes from living memory altogether.

All very poignant.

I'm in. I've just taken delivery of the re-issued 1/35 DUKW (which incidentally is boxed as a "D-day 80th anniversary" commerative). I had a plan for it, but it has markings for the D-day landings, so that's what it'll be.

Hi, everyone,

I'm so glad I found this thread - I bet you're exactly the ones I need to ask this question to. I've been out of the hobby forever but I've painted over 2000 figures in my lifetime. 25-120mm, mostly military, mostly American conflicts. I'd like to ask you for a recommendation because I don't even know where to shop anymore, and I wouldn't know if there are new figure sellers out there in the last 12 years.

I'd like to paint a presentation piece (two full figures) in gratitude for an invitation to stay at a private home in Normandy for a week this June, for the 80th anniversary celebration. I specialize in the history of one very tiny piece of the Omaha Beach landings. I can modify any stock figure as needed but the closer I can get out of the box, the better. This will be one US Army and one US Navy officer of the Special Engineer Task Force. Attached is one photo of some of the enlisted Navy men assigned to this mission, so you get a sense of the uniforms I'm looking for. I would love to do this in 75 or 90mm scale but I would consider 1:24 or larger. Resin is preferred but I'll work in any medium. Standing poses are fine.

Ages ago, there was a reference website I think called redlancers dot com where it pretty much listed all the big makers (and a lot of small ones) and all their products, so I could find one I wanted and then go look for someone who sells it. Not the other way around where I have to go to every online seller and see what's in stock today.

Any suggestions where I should shop (and does anyone have any specific figure in mind)? Thanks kindly!
...and.... I can see photos in other people's posts but not mine. I linked. I uploaded. Nothing is visible. Third time's the charm? Omaha NCDUS

So very apt on this 80th Anniversary 4BDE1A69-EC01-4B6E-8CAA-9CCAFB32665C.jpeg

D DAY 80 - RESPECT & HONOUR

Soldier's Eyes by Jack Savoretti

Lately I've been wondering what's been going on
I've been here before but I don't remember when
And every time we get to where we're entering
I feel my beliefs and hopes surrendering

But I know I'll be coming home soon
Yes, I know that I'll be coming home soon

'Cause like the enemies that we are battling
I am nothing but a human alien
Left with nothing else but to keep wandering
Down this path whilst stopping my hands trembling

Because I know that I'll be coming home soon
And yes, I know that I'll be coming home soon, with a soldier's eyes
With a soldier's eyes
With a soldier's eyes
With a soldier's eyes

I've seen inside the devil's dreams where young men die
And graveyards open up their arms for mothers left to cry
I have seen the bleeding and I hate what we've done
But just like every other fool I'll keep marching on

Because I know that I'll be coming home soon
And yes, I know, that I'll be coming home soon with a soldier's eyes
With a soldier's eyes
With a soldier's eyes
With a soldier's eyes
