I am planning to buy a few Da Vinci brushes for acrylic painting.

I was wondering whether anybody could point me in the right direction regarding the following:

1. Which series/range should I consider
2. Are there any on line stores which carry these brushes

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regrads

Franco, I recently purchased five, series 36 Da Vinci brushes, sizes 0,1,2,4,6. I have not used them yet but they appear to be of good quality. The larger ones you might not use but the smaller ones look good. They came in a set and listed for about $55.00

I use them for water colour painting, and they are very good. The smaller ones would be best for models.

The Maestro series is the top end Franco, I've been very happy with them - of the brushes I've tried they're roughly tied for first place.

Re. online suppliers, any particular country? It's quite likely that you'll find the best prices in the US (e.g. from Dick Blick) but the shipping could overwhelm the savings if you're having them sent to Europe, unless you place a large order.

Tom, Cristina, Marc, Chris, Daniel, Einion & Simon, thanks guys for the useful information.

I am living in Australia and tried looking for local suppliers on the internet but failed. I think I will go with Marc's suggestion and try El Greco Miniatures for these.

I have tried the W & N Series 7 brushes and they are outstanding but I am also keen to give these Da Vinic brushes a go as I have heard good reports on their quality etc.

Once again thanks for taking the time to respond to my thread and for all the great info - much appreciated

Not to take the business away from Matthew if he did stock them but surely the exchange rate with the US$ would be better than against the Pound?

I was going to suggest asking on an Australian or NZ artists' forum if there were any, but you can find their Australian dealers on the daVinci Defet site's retalier list:

Plenty of others worth give a test drive to as well. Not all quality brushes work well as direct substitutions to Series 7 - the Rosemary & Co. brushes for example are noted for being a little softer than is typical for brushes of this type.

I have been using the Da Vinci Series 36 most often and the Series 10 for fine detail work for years - very reasonable and top quality. You can check them out at lastcavalry.com - here: http://bit.ly/LF0out
Sorry for the shameless plug - but I really like these brushes!

It looks like I am getting somewhere with this one - thanks a ton for the links and yes there appears to be a few Australian retailers :) Thanks a ton for that useful link Einion.

I am also pleased that I now know which series I have to purchase - that has been very valuable info. It is also good to read that the Da Vinci brushes have such a good reputation.

ciao for now

Sorry to disappoint, but we do not stock Da Vinci brushes. However we do stock the Rosemary & Co. Kolinsky Sable brushes in various series. These have an excellent reputation amongst modellers who use them.
My fault......I whas sure that I bought the Da Vinci brushes. Looked again and saw your post and it are indeed Rosemary & Co. who are for lower cost the quality of W&N serie 7

Superb brushes, constant quality and very reasonably priced.
