I thought that I would share a few pictures of my Davey Crockett. It is the Andrea kit but I changed the coonskin tail and laid it onto his shoulder. I saw that someone else has done this kit, sorry don't remember the name but good job! (y)

Robin,

What I did was go to the extreme on the highlight edges. This was a trial and error and I liked the way that it turned out. I am like you when it comes to making things looked worn,I think it adds to the figure, Hardy does a great job at doing this.

Hey Joe!

Was this one of the pieces you brought with you to Tulsa? I think I can remember seeing it and talking to you about it. If its the same one, the pictures don't do it justice.

A question, How do you handle large areas of the same color when your painting in acrylics, this is one area where I have a lot of problems

Excellent job Joe,

As a lover of Mountain Men subjects and their way of life, you have done a superb job on his skins......very worn look about them.

Thanks again Guy and Anders. Yes, Anders this is the same figure. I took a few new pictures and I hope these are a little better. When I paint any large area I try to make it the medium color and then just work the highlight from, say on this figure, the shoulder then add more highlight color and slowly make the area smaller and smaller. In the case that it looks to stark I will add a very thin/almost transparent glaze/wash over it with the base color. I hope this helps, if not let me know and I will try to make it a little clearer. Remember its early for me! :)

Joe,

I recently put ol' Davy in my pf gallery but yours is fantastic. (y) (y) His Loyal Order of Racoon hat came out great & I really like the woodgrain on his rifle. I still haven't mastered that trick, among others. Makes me want to repaint mine. Great job.

Mike

SO it was yours, Mike. Nice job. Thanks for the kind words. As far as the tricks, it is not that hard, if you ever have any questions let me or I am sure I speak for others, just ask. ;)

Joe

Hey Joe, I'll ask first
How did you do the woodgrain on that rifle? gotta learn that technique.....beautiful!

Guy

Superb, that's all I can say. i hope I'll be able to paint like that one day. (y)

Greetings,

Gino

Guy and Mike,
What I do to paint the grain. It varies on the type of wood you are looking for but here is a quick run down. I take beige brown as the base then I will use flat brown and black to make a dark shade then for the lights I use a cork brown. I should say that I will take a base, like for DC I used the one he is mounted on and tried to create the grain. Once I have it the way I like it I will take the brown and black and make a transparent tint and brush on the wood pattern. I hope this helps and you can understand my ramblings! I am including one of the few Napoleonic's that I have ever painted. I took a lot of slack on the grain pattern but I thought that it looked pretty

Gino,

My friend you are there already. I would put any of your figures proudly in my display case. (y)
