Finished this chap today, I’m pretty pleased with the face, I tried some techniques from my newly arrived figure faq book and they went fairly well.

That is a hefty chunk of resin. Very nicely done, is that a metallic blue or did you ink over silver?

Thanks chaps.

He is a bit of a chunk isn’t he? I airbrushed on silver with Tamiya clear blue over the top. It worked reasonably well, the only problem is that it made it hard to get other paints to stick over the top, I think I’ll paint the other details first then mask and paint the ‘candy effect’ in future.

On something the size of those shoulderpads it is a nice effect. You could probably look at heavy preshading to give it some tone underneath the translucent blue. Would need to have a very clear plan of where the final highs and shadows are going to be over the whole figure to make it work. Interesting challenge.

That’s cool, this was a huge topic at the Chicago show. There a lot of discussion about painters in their various genres. Some of the best advice I heard this past weekend was start painting other genres, using different techniques to improve and stretch your abilities.

Lovely piece, like the armour technique the bald head and long beard are a nice juxtaposition to the futuristic armour which works better on this larger scale.

Cheers Simon

Hi Stefan

Looks a rather large piece , like the armour , if anything I'd put a darker wash over the gold details on the armour

Nice work on the head ...he's got a bit of a Briggsy look about him ......a fine fellow indeed...lol
