I painted the Sapeur [2012] using Indigo straight out of the tube but the Artillery officer[Dec 2013] was a blue mixed from Indigo and Cobalt blue. The later was easier to highlight and just looks better to me!!

Enjoy:)

Cobalt blue? I take it these are oils you're on about? I'm always looking for ways of improving , especially with reds & blues and may consider this...
Do you recall exactly what you did with the paint?

Nice job by the way!

Thanks ..........er............Blind?:giggle:

The indigo was used straight from the tube and highlighted with a greyish blue mix but, the Artillery officer was Indigo with Cobalt blue over the same Humbrol dark blue. You can vary the amount of Cobalt blue and if you think it looks too bright add a complimentary colour [from the colour wheel such as orange] to reduce its value or kill it's brightness.

Experiment on something and be prepared to strip it if you don't like it. ALWAYS keep you colour palettes once dried out and catalogue in a file somewhere safe. Once the Summer comes around I take off on triathlons and when I start to paint in the offseason I find I can't remember what I used .................the palettes for me are invaluable when starting up again.;)

Nice idea with the Palettes David, I am crap at mixing colours, the colour wheel is a magical mystery tour for me, and I can never remember what I have used. I sometimes use a notebook but more often than not forget to enter the colours.
