Ok was looking through my Bust cabinet and I'd need a crowbar to get anymore in there lol. But if that's what I need I'll get one. I have several Confederate bust and two look to have a uniform with the Confederate Butter nut color so the question. Is there a company or Brand of paint that has a close or match for the Butter nut color in Acrylic? I looked at some really alot on line but didn't find any. Any ideas who might? Thank you Regards, Brock

As far as Butternut is concerned, there really isn't a correct color; it was sort of tanish grey. I generally use a yellow ochre to start, and work from there. You could also start with a dark ivory. If there is a specific uniform that you are trying to recreate, could post a photo or a link.

Thank you Captenglish for the info. not sure about a picture as thee bust is OOP it is the Confederate officer bust by Ellies Miniatures I believe it is OOP and the company is gone. Regards, Brock

You have any visual reference for the color you want? Go through your paints and find one. Butternut wasn't a particular shade. It was the result of manufacturers or people at home using rust, nut shells, dirt, or anything else to color the cloth. Pretty impossible to get it wrong. Another thing: learning to mix color is a pretty good skill for a painter.

I've never seen a specifc Butternut paint in any range. Andrea do a Confederate Grey which is definately not Cadet Grey.

The other range to take a look at is AK Interactive. In their 3GEN General series there's Rock Grey, Warm Grey, Medium Sea Grey, Deck Tan, Grey Brown. This'll give you a good choice of greyish-brownish-beigish paints.

Also check out their 3GEN Air series. Don't be put off by the name, they're not thinned paints suitable only for airbrushes. These ones are the same quality paints as the General range but for painting airforce colours. And there's more greys in there than you can shake a stick at! Fast forward to the single AIR colours on their website and you'll see them all listed by national airforce. Try RLM Grau, RAF Hemp, IJN Amber Grey on and on... Best of luck, hope you find something that suits. You can usually buy AK paints on eBay.
