Next up on the bench and another great semi flat from Ken at Mil-Mart. Dominique Jean Larrey was Napoleons Surgeon in Chief and this 90mm high semi flat bust is very nicely sculpted and cast. The original ‘box art’ painting by Dennis Mitschke is a wonderful piece of work making a hard act to follow, way out of my league.

made a start by blocking in the main colours as I usually do and a start on the face which I am doing in oils

Also, my next batch from Mil-Mart has arrived, again superb service from Ken.

The Napoleon on horseback is a lovely piece and will take a while to do. Sepp Dietrich will go nicely with the Michael Whittman one I’d did a while back. The ‘Napoleon on Guard, top right, is a fun cartoony piece and the Water Nymph bottom right is a gorgeous piece of fantasy art which will be fun to paint.

Hi Graham

That's a nice choice and a good start ...you definately like the releases from Ken ...and enjoying the benchtime

Nice selection to come from you as well ...like the cartoon one

Happy benchtime

Yep, I have developed a bit of a thing for these figures. Bit like Pokemon.... got to get them all:D I have three on the go at the moment but the Napoleon on Guard will be in the next painting batch. Trying hard to keep to three at once and not start on them all ;)

Good start Graham. I know how you feel about not doing a figure justice, but stay the course and make each figure a learning experience. BTW, I really like Napoleon on Guard.

Hey Graham,

Good start, will follow with interest
My "thing" is history of military medicine and have some Larrey and other Corps de Sante figures and busts from various manufacturers, mostly still in the grey army.
Here is the painting I believe the Mil-Mart Larrey is based on, should you'd like to use it as reference:

The ‘Napoleons on Guard’ makes me chuckle every time I look at it:D . To me, the fun of painting comes first. Learning new techniques or improving on old ones second and learning something new, be it painting or the history of the subject last.
