My dream piece is a box dio of Stauffennberg putting the bomb under the table at Rastenburg on July 20, 1944. With every man in the room depicted as a 100% accurate personality figure. Its doable but I don't have the staying power for 20+ figures.

I hope I'm not hijacking this thread and that Colorado was asking what everyone's dream is.

Cheers

Colin

Depicting the entire crew of the WW 1 German A7V tank, either in action in the tank(the tank hull will be a cut-away model),or arrayed all along the tank's outer superstructure while a photograph is taken by a photographer. All this will be in 54mm,of course. I don't think I'll have the time or energy to scratch-build(or convert) 20-odd German figures and an accurate A7V tank for the scene ;). Just my 2 cents worth.Cheers !

I've got a couple that are scenes from one of my favorite childhood movies, "the Right Stuff":
1. The scene where Chuck Yeager (Sam Sheppard) is asking Ridley "you got any Beemans?" while in his metallic flight suit standing in front of the F-104.
2. The scene where the 7 Mercury astronauts are marching down the hallway in their space gear.

Ah, just dreams. In the meantime, I'll settle for a figure of Capt. Richard Winters in Holland. Hey, wait a minute .....

1/35 scale Huey in Vietnam disembarking a load of GI's; slightly off the ground, some clever 'wire work' keeping the attachment to the base invisible.
Seen it done, but would love to get that 'Horan' animation into the piece.

Oh, and the 1/35 LCVP disembarking a full assault boat team onto a Normandy beach. Something I feel, if handled well, could be a stirring piece of miniature art.
But 30+ men, all heavily animated, together with the sea! It would be my 'Gandamak', so therefore a dream!!!!

There are always others that cross my mind!!!!

HHMMM that is a really good question so many run through my mind! One in particular would be a WW1 dio of Germans overunning a French trench and hand to hand scene.Always wanted to do a large dio.

Hey Gray,

I have to admit, I've pondered the Gulliver idea myself. It would be an interesting departure from a military related theme and an interesting combination of figures in different scales. I'm too swamped, so I'll let you do it.

I always thought a cool shadow box would be to depict a stick of paratroops on board a C-47 destined for Normandy with the view looking through the inside of the aircraft from the tail section forward to the cockpit with the distant view of the Normandy coast in the windshield and a jumpmaster in the side doorway looking down on the invasion force as they fly over the channel. It would be interesting to depict how individual paratroops may have prepared themselves for the emminent jump, some sleeping, some adjusting gear, some sharing conversation and some praying for their well being. I may have just given someone a good idea, but I don't think I'll ever be able to achieve it. It might even be interesting to contrast the Normandy invasion of 1944 with the Norman Conquest of England in 1066 and show ghostly images of Norman vessels sailing toward the invasion force. Two entirely different invasions under different circumstanses, but no less ironic.

Hi everybody!

I can't take off my mind an afetmath of a Napoleonic or ACW battle. Battlefield littered with casualties and derelict and dertoyed guns, limbers, ammo wagons, some horse asrtillery moving around and a shameful high command satff taking a view of the madnness. Of course that should be in 15 or 28mm. I think it could look good if we don't get to the core of the bussinness.

Hasta luego. .

David,
I think the idea of the interior of a C47 heading towards Normandy has been done before. Although I don't remember by who, I vividly remember seeing a picture of it in a magazine (I believe it was Military Modeling) when I first got into the hobby about 9 years ago.

Thanks Pete,

For me, it would be an idea worth revisiting, especially with the abundance of information and interest generated in the past few years regarding the Airborne troops. Like you, I have always had great interest, admiration and respect for what those guys faced as they made their jump into Normandy. This past summer I had the opportunity to meet some former members of the 101st who were Veterans of the Normandy Invasion and I was truly moved by thier stories.

David,
I hear ya! I've got one more figure from "Band of Brothers" in the finishing stages - Sgt. Floyd Talbert - and a couple others in the planning stages. The first of these is "Wild Bill" Guarnere in Bastogne (a minor conversion of the 54mm Ardennes paratrooper by Michael Roberts) and Eugene "Doc" Roe. Now if Gary would only get to work on that WWII Army medic he once told me about ...

While not as ambitious as some of the projects outlined here, I've thought that the final scene from O. Henry's Jimmy Hayes and Muriel would make a wonderful diorama. It would involve at least five or six Texas Ranger figures (how many are in a "half troop"?) plus their mounts, tack, and weapons, 4 skeletonized figures, and a horned toad figure (Muriel). The cheering Rangers would allow for dynamic poses, some mounted, some not, and even the skeletonized remains of Jimmy Hayes and the bandits would have to be well posed to properly tell the story. And then there's Muriel...

The terrain would have to be large enough to tell the story properly, and the scale would have to be such that a scale horned toad would show up. Possibly 54mm would work, but 75mm or 90mm would be better. Allowing for artistic license, the scene could be done at a base size of around 4' x 2' in 54mm.

It's beyond my talent and time at present, but perhaps one day.

Good question.

I've always wanted to do something involving recently extinct bird species as well as historical miniatures, in 120mm and in a historically accurate setting...
Some Civil War or native American figures with Passenger Pigeons perhaps. Or a Pirate with a Cuban Red Macaw.

Well, I know it sounds weird ...

shadow boxes are something id like to eventually get into myself and that C-47 para one would be cool!! i know i have seen one of German paras exiting out of a JU-52 and not to long ago one of a Sherman tank crew in action, really great work in reporducing the turret interior,i believe it was 120mm.

My Dream project would be a french hussra trumpeter in 120 mm, jumping a fence all equipment bouncing about etc, saw it done by Bill Ottinger in his book.

Also Cloing the doors at Hougemount Farm in 120mm, all beyond me unfortunatley but its a dream.

I also though the inside of a battleship turret would be kewl in a box diorama

The complete battle scene from the start of the film Gladiator
or at least that point where the germanic tribes realise they are caught between the legion and the cavalry.

Have given this some thought about modifying Teutonberger wald
diorama piece.

O,well (sigh!!!) back to the single figure.

John, yes he did. A really cool one that was a shadow box with the paratroopers ready to jump out (red light). The lighting was exceptional.

I happen to know Dennis pretty well ;)
