Found these the other night during a search, thought they might come in handy for those in the US or Canada.

This page has a Variable Speed Foot Pedal, item 95815, for $14.95 that "will work with Dremel tools."

And if you want to take a stab at making your own, article here.

...

The first page also has a 110V 1/3 horsepower tool, item 95838, that looks interesting as an alternative to Dremel-type tools and is only $49.95. Comes with a long flex shaft and foot-pedal control for variable speeds from 0 to 15,000rpm. Has a "Jacobs style jaw" that goes up to 5/32", which will take a wide range of common hobby bits.

Great find

Hi Einion,

thanks for sharing. The foot pedal is a damned good idea.

I have one of these pedals. This is a variable rheostat like the adjustment on the dremel.
Beween the two you can work out what is the most comfortable for you by first adjusting the maximum speed you desire on the dremel. The foot pedal will go from zero to that maximum by applying more or less pressure to the pedal, just like an automobile gas pedal.

Yeah, much better than trying to fiddle with a dial when the other hand is usually occupied holding the thing we're working on!

Jewellers have long used tools like the 110V 1/3 horsepower thing I mention in the second part of my post, where there is a flexible shaft and a foot pedal, and that is the gold standard in terms of comfort and control IMO.

Is it possible to switch it on and off with the pedal ????
Yep. If it's not pressed that equals off.

Thanks for the extra detail Joe, good to know it would work that way - setting it to only go up to, say, 500rpm, would be great for fine control doing certain kinds of grinding and when drilling some materials.

Marc,

If you plug it in your guitar, it should enable you to play as fast as SRV!

Quang

When i get the right amp, with the right sunburst Fender Strat, i will try it.
I can tune it down and up with this pedal, and then play it loud.:D
SRV must turning into his grave when he should here me playing then:eek:
Never get that trill, i think it's gone. Chitlins con Carne is burning in my fingers.
