Can anyone explain a little bit of the day brushing technique such as what kind of brush and style of brush to use thanks

'Dry brushing' refers to the technique of hi-lighting raised detail, using a suitable type and size of brush that has been loaded with paint, with most of it then wiped off to leave the barest minimum in the brush.
This is then drawn across the top of the raised areas, at a flat, parallel angle to the detail/area to be hi-lighted.
Generally, you would use a flat or filbert for this, as a point would only reach a very small area at a time, unless of course this is what you want.

Hope this helps.

Use an old brush lightly dip the brush in your paint then wipe as much as possible off with a tissue, then lightly "feather" over the surface to be dry brushed, don't put too much on at first & slowly build it up with fresh applications until you get the desired effect, be careful as it's easily overdone.

Thanks all for the info and thanks Mark for taking the time to post those
Videos a picture really is worth a 1000 words thanks again all

Works good with a filter over the top also. It wasn't invented to go away, just refined :)
I recently bought a Tamilya Stug IV to do over Christmas.
No etch, no extras but dry brushing the Verlinden way, to get me back to what it was all about :)
Arrrrrrr, cannot wait
:)

It's not a bad technique for some applications... for me I only use it for bringing up the detail of areas of hair, fur, chain mail, engraving and of course groundwork, as mentioned above.
The technique has been described well... for colour, I start with a middle base, then drybrush with a couple of progressions of highlight tones, then use washes in the shadow colour... sometimes alternating between DB and wash. You can drybrush heavier on the higher areas of the part and wash deeper in the folds.

The deeper the detail of the sculpt, the better this technique works.

Happy brushing
