A good session this morning. Plugging slowly away at the white, getting the seams and some attempt at shading going. Started on the flesh tones, and the girls clothing. I've decided to go for a pastel palette, to complement the red and blue of the drummer.
Getting at the detail is tricky, because so much is tucked away in awkward positions. It really would ease painting if the girl was separate from the drummer figure.
I'm pleased with it so far, despite the frustration of trying to shade white.

Hi Henk

All credit to you beginning to happen , I woukd aim for a campaign look on the white , dirt and weathering

There's certainly a lot hard to get to places but it will be worth it

What are you using for the metallics looks a bit like copper in colour rather than brass ?

Might be me but there seems to be lots of wraps/ bandages on Richards sculpts

Look forward to the next update

Happy benchtine

Thanks Kev. Yes, I'm now at the point where what looked like a white mess, is starting to talk to me..
Hmm, campaign look.. the Armour modeller's 'get out of jail' card.... lol lol I'm not resorting to that yet, but he won't be in parade order, thats for sure.
The metallics are a mix, for the brass I'm using Vallejo Game Colour 'Brassy Brass', which needs to be weathered yet, for the iron I use either Tamiya Gun Metal with some Matt Black, or Citadel Leadbelcher.
The wraps are what I assume would be used as ersatz gloves.

I treated myself to a quick session with the brushes tonight, but you'll have to wait till next week for pictures, as I'm off to work in the morning..

Talking of painting, there is an extraordinary amount of paint 'pushing' involved, to get at the detail. My brushes from Broken Toad are putting up with the abuse they are getting at the moment, with an admirable resilience.

A bit more progress. I've decided on a Yellow dress, with white lace detail. Yellow needs to be dulled down a bit (fashion colours of the day were quite muted), with a motive like in the reference picture. I've realised that what I started painting as a Violet skirt, is in fact a petticoat, so ill have to repaint that in a cream colour..
The jacket is (Khorne) Red, a Citadel colour. I need to add some highlight to it yet. I've painted the lace (braid?) on her jacket in Yellow, it needs another coat, but its a pain to get at. The fur trim will need many more washes of various inks to get the right shades. Patience and resilience are needed here.

Shaping up nicely. Between the white and red this is not a kit for the faint at heart

Thanks Scott. You're right, the White and Red are a challenge, more so as I dont usually paint white... I solved the problem with the Red by switching to Tamiya :rolleyes:, which has better coverage. Mind you, you can ignore most of the back and shoulders of the figure, as its covered by his Cape.

Hi Henk you're cracking on with this.....(y). have you any information on the cockade just below the pompom on the headress.... I can't find out out if it was metal or fabric , I've managed to change mine to the 5th regiment.....cheers Mike

In short, no, I have no definitive info, but looking at the available images I would guess that the cockade would have been metal, as it is the fixing plate for a very tall plume :D. It looks either painted, or maybe covered in some very thin fabric. Good job on the Regimental change, it will be nice to see different versions/colour schemes.

Todays efforts. A mixed result, I've blocked in the scarf and added the first wash, happy with the colour. I've also had a first attempt at the girls dress, and the least said about that, the better... I've realised anyway, that I'm going the wrong way about the dress (I think....), there's a rather distinct difference around the back, with a large bow detail, that seems to match to the bits at the front (which I started in Violet).... I'm starting that again tomorrow.
Other than that, been tinkering with bits and bobs, the jacket and fur trim, the girls boots and gaiters, and the Czapka's peak is done.
I've also decided that I will clean up the drum's ropes, removing the excess resin..

I've changed the colour of the dress, a lighter Violet with a pale Yellow petticoat/under dress. It looks better now. Today ill work on the hat, and some of the highlights.

I've started the eyes, I like the line of sight, it suits the figure very well.

A bit since the last update, work and real life are limiting my benchtime somewhat. I'm also a bit bogged down, this being such a different project from my normal subjects. I've finally seen on the overall colour palette, and I'm now slowly getting the finish where I want it. I've decided on a different effect, a weathered finish, as if they've been on the march for some time.
Anyway, this is where I'm at at the moment. Apologies for the photos, they are taken in bad light, with my phone..

We're on the home straight (at last...), I'm finishing the drum and sabriquet, and have added the details to the czapka. Once the drum is on, I'll finish the weathering, to tie it all together.
Talking of the drum, when I was cutting away the excess resin between the tensioning ropes and the drum body, I managed to cut one of the ropes, and feed the carpet monster... welcome to the armour modelers world. If in doubt, cover it with a tarp
I've made a simple scarf, both to cover the offending rope, and to add a little detail of my own, I like to do that sometimes. I'll finish that tomorrow, after its dried, and then add it all to the drummer.

Looking very fine Henk. A really nice selection of colours.

Thank you Peter, picking colours is a new thing for me, and the purchase of a colourwheel was not wasted. I'm also mixing colours more now, rather than picking one of 8 browns or 12 greens from the rack..
