This sounds very interesting unfortunately though I have 3 out of the characters in Metal from Scale 75. So its a case of do I need a resin version. :)

Hm, I'm wondering if there is any chance of getting the resin figures without the campaign...

Can anybody explain to me what the purpose is for using the kickstarter business model for selling miniatures?

I have been in this business for over 25 years now. If that has taught me anything it is that nobody gets in this business to make money. If they think that is what it is about, they are most likely mistaken. I think the example of Seil Models can be used. They had top quality products - and they went out of business because there were not enough customers to make a "killing" producing miniatures for a quantitatively small group of hobbyists. This hobby is not a growth industry. If the object is to make money, then this hobby is probably a very poor choice for such ventures.

How do such capitalist models of business play out in the production of miniatures?

Not well, I would think. Can anybody enlighten me?

Mario you could always email them and ask. :)

@Bonehead

This case is a bit different as its miniatures and a board game. Which for some reason kickstarter has been an absolute growth market for board games. For some its getting a foothold on the boardgame market just like Journey : wrath of demons. Others like Kingdom death now have a foothold (which has a cult following) and its miniatures sell out and can for silly prices on ebay. Studio Mcvey though had a bitter pill with seditions wars that got resolved with a rewrite of the boardgame rules.

I dont know the financial gains of any of these companies with the respective kickstarter projects but its something that would be interesting to find out.

Spread the love Mr Good.(y)

Carl,

It is not about "spreading the love", it is about my personal mystification.

I have been in the hobby business my entire adult life. You cannot have that experience without developing a realistic notion of the breadth of the business. :blackeye:

I am not trying to discourage anybody, I simply want to understand. I don't get it. I am hoping somebody can explain it to me. Anybody? :unsure:

Basically its professional begging to bring creative works out that wouldn't otherwise see the light of day.

Kickstarters only accept creative works projects I am led to believe.

Up front investment allows small initiatives or companies without the investment funds, to create new models or games. By collecting that money from backers they generate enough money to pay for the project without having to find the investment.

It is not as much about making money as about having it to invest. With some of the companies doing it they are expecting to turn a profit but this takes the risk out of it for them.Some individuals will be doing it to fund a dream and not expect to make anything.

The reasons for doing it will be fairly diverse but it's basic economics really, if you don't invest you can't produce if you can't produce you make no money, even to cover costs.

Thanks Pilgrim and Sprout! Now I understand. I must admit to being completely ignorant of board games. All of the names of games mentioned by pilgrim are unknown to me. I have no concept of these things (no interest in them either!).

Also, my knowledge about the kickstarter model is completely absent. Hey, maybe i should do a kickstarter! I want to start my own business and have no money (a result of being in this business for all of my adult life!).

Would anybody kickstart me? :woot::unsure:

Scale games have released a new figure to go with this project.

Hi all.
After a very stressed week, we get finally the video game demo. Please, note that the rules are Beta rules and they will change during the campaign. Most import thing for us is that you like it and enjoy imagining a real Hero´s fight….
Thank you very much.
Muchas gracias.
