I just got back from this years Duke of Bavaria Show in Ingolstadt (near Munich) here in Germany.Visitors were a little less in number than the past years, but we were told this was due to the upcoming World Expo in Boston later in the year.Of course the foreign visitors cannot be expected to attend all shows which are held in a year and the World Expo is always the Highlight.Nevertheless there were many excellent entries and of course the works of Bill Horan,Mike Blank,Diego Ruina,Luca Oliveiri,David Lane,to name just a few of the many many excellent Figures and Artists represented. This year Ray Farriuga from Malta was one of the guests of honour and he gave a painting Seminar (Acrylics) excellent stuff !!!.
Best of show in Painters Class was Diego Ruina and Best of show in Open Class was David Lane.New Figures out at the show were:New 70mm Knight from Latorre Miniatures,Pegaso had, aside from the new 75mm Celz (SUPERB !!!) als an excellent mounted Crusader Knight in 54mm and a Western Sheriff about to draw his pistol also 54mm.Frank Miniatures had a beautiful 54mm Union soldier sculpted by Tony Williams M-Models from Poland had a 90mm Roman Legionary Germania.Marion and Alan Ball had their exquisite 90mm Bavarian Officer and a new 54mm Woodland Indian (Highlights of the Show).
I spoke with David Lane and told him about Planet Figure he didnt know about the site !!! I gave him the details and he will definately be joining us here at the Planet on Tuesday or Wednesday (when he arrives back home) I will try to get some photos posted from my buddy who took loads on the weekend.

On Hz-Forum the Germans have already put up images by yesterday and some great stuff there was!... prompt news, the German way!

Thanks to Ray it has been the first time for us Maltese to participate in Ingolstadt, though we were'nt in flesh ... so we missed all the fun! From the competition point of view we went well, as we managed to get one Bronze to Steve [Slaj] Mallia in Open, and in Painters Harold Stivala a Silver and Ray Caruana, Oliver Mifsud and myself a Bronze also in painting! Well done to all the guys ... pity not all pop in here in planet!

From Ray's view and what we received by SMS it sounded to be a great show and very very friendly ... looking for tomorrow club session to see the images and here the news! ;)

Marc,
glad you enjoyed the Figures over on HZ-Forum,indeed the Standard of Painting on show in Ingolstadt is very high also due to the large amount of Foreign Painters
who, thankfully for us here in Germany, take the time to visit the show and enjoy the Event itself and also the Bavarian Army Museum where the Show takes place. The whole event is expertly organized and the hospitality suite in the Bavarian Flag Room with free food and drink is the ideal place to break the ice and ask the experts those questions you always wanted to.There are plenty of Trade stands and Seminars and the beer is good !!!! What more does one need ???
Phil,
true its been a while since we saw each other,I will pass on your good wishes to Frank and we will be in Folkestone in September. You also ??
By the way Pegasos latest 75mm Celt and Roman Figures and 54mm mounted Crusader are EXCELLENT !!! I bought all three of them and can recommend them highly.
Peter

Hi Pete,

thanks for starting this thread..........it really was an unforgettable experience for me, and if I had money to spend every year, this show would definitely be on my agenda..................excellent setting, a 700 year old castle.......home of the Bavarian Army Museum.......as you said the beer is gooooood..........rubbing shoulders with all the "greats" that might be attending, or even having breakfast with them if you're lucky enough like I was this year, staying in the same hotel as David Lane and Viktor Konnov, me being "invited as well" to this show ;)

It was a pleasure getting to know you mate, along with Frank with whom I had an interesting chat at the presentationn ceremony (excellent translator) you indeed are a formidable tandem!!

Re "my painting seminar"..........I can assure everyone here that it wasn't me talking or splashing the paint on that poor face..........I was LOST!! It was my inner Ray struggling to do it!! I was SCARED S*%@L^$$ some top brass would be there, so I just dug in my heels and rarely looked at the audience, especially at the begining of the 1hr 20min seminar ( I need 4hrs the LEAST, to say I'v painted a face)........the poor brush I was using, never had so much visits to the water jar in such a short time and I could hear it swearing at me........I just didn't know what I was doing :(, but anyway I did manage to "show" how I splash the paint on my faces

I would like to thank the hard working organising team for inviting me and make me feel WELCOME, APPRECIATED, and most of all AT HOME!!!

Thanks guys, you are all so wonderful!!

Take care mate,

Ray.

Hello Ray,

I really enjoyed your demonstration and it was a pleasure to see some of your work in flesh. These were among the best figures in the show, as well as some of the other pieces from Malta.
I did't notice that you were some kind of nervous
Hope you liked the "German atmosphere" in Ingolstadt and you will come back.

Best regards

Mark
