I have started to paint this bust of the Red lancers from Mitches military miniatures, it is a challenging bust to paint mainly because of the gold lace being a large feature of the model.
I have improved the hooks on the lion head for the chin chain and the top corner on the chapska.
I have used the following metallics for gold lace.

I did find some photos on line of the chapska but have lost those.

Hi Bob

That’s coming on really nicely , liking the headwear , great sculpt as well ...a fine moustache

........as you say a lot of gold work on him

Look forward to seeing more on the lace

Have fun with the uniform red as well

Following with interest

Happy benchtime

Lovely work, and thanks for sharing how you did it.

Thank you Nap and Nigel. The gold lace is driving me nuts.
The way for me to shade the lace is with the murky mire ink. It dulls the metallic down and does what it says on the tin, gives it a murky look. I quite like the effect. Highlights in classic gold bring out the colour.

Lovely start Bob, not surprised the gold is somewhat distracting. Not tried the Dark Star metallics, how do you find them? Got to be better than Vellajo Air metallics, they look to be, is that a single coat?

Cheers Simon

That looks good. The sun burst is particularly fine. Gold lace is always tricky to replicate, I feel.
I feel your pain as I am pondering how best to do the lace on Lasalles bust.
The darkstar metallics are good though.

I have found the dark star quite good at coverage but you have to give them a good shake .
