About 6 weeks ago Young sent me his samples of Easy Work. I thought about just opening them up, taking a few photos and writing the review but decided to do a more in depth review by actually using and applying the products to 5 identical bases and show the products being used. This would also answer some of my own questions about the products too. Some kind of idea about shelf life and how they feel when applied to the base. This I will cover at the end of the review.

I went ahead and ordered 5 identical bases, stained them and prepared the wood as I would with my old product I used. In the mean time, after getting the samples in the mail, I opened all of them and placed the containers (now with the seal broken) out in my garage where the temperatures and humidity will really fluctuate over the last 2 months. With temperatures going from 38 degrees to 95 degrees, this would give me an idea of how they will hold up after opening and re-sealing the container.

Young has produced the following 5 Groundwork Products.

EWO-01 Base - white color
EWO-02 Earth - white color
EWO-03 Mud - Yellow Ochre color
EWO-o4 Sand - white color
EWO-05 Gravel - white color

All of the above products are water soluable

The below photos show the product opened and a small amount spread over each of the Oak bases.

EWO-01 Base

Above the Base product was applied with a smooth consistency over the wood and worked to the edges with the trowel evenly.

EWO-02 Earth

EARTH.jpg

Above Earth is applied with a little more "grit" into the mixture and a little more difficult to apply to the edge.

EWO-03 Mud

Above is the Mud product applied. Its color is yellow ochre and spread smoothly to the edges.

EWO-o4 Sand

Above is the Sand product with increases "grit" added to give a rough texture after being applied. A little harder to work to the edge for a smooth line but just took a little more time and patience.

EWO-05 Gravel

GRAVEL.jpg

The above Gravel product is again heavier with "grit" and moves slowly to the edges and had to be worked more with the trowel.

5 bases.jpg

Above the 5 completed bases are put aside to dry and after about an hour under a 60 watt bulb were hard to the touch. I would suggest giving them a 24 hour period to ensure complete drying and adhesion to the base.

The above photos were taken from Young Miniatures website which show his step-by-step procedure for using the products. This photo is also on the back of each container.

CONCLUSION:

Young has come out with some amazing groundwork products. Each product spread easily from their container and dried to the touch in an hour.

Estimated shelf life I will predict as excellent with the smaples I have had being exposed to varrying tempertures and humidity. All products were intact in their original consistency after re-opening them. High recommended

Thanks for your review. I have used the gravel mix recently on the base for French Imperial Grenadier Guard. It does remain pliable for several hours after application which is ideal for adding rocks, grass and other bits and pices before the mix sets. I found that once dy, it takes paint very well.

Cheers

Thanks Tony and Rudi. These products are really great and make the "doing groundwork" much easier.

Now.......what do I do with 5 pounds of Sculpty-Mold? :D:D
