Hi Dimitris!!!
very good beginning.
Maybe what little illumination strongly to the head of a lion teeth.
Waiting for the sequel .....

Alexandros.

Thank you all very much for the comments and the feedback. Gives courage and strength. Will start the shield soon and since i havent found any images of decoration o the net any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you Carl for this one. Really nice site. I ll try to paint some of those see what turns out.

Beautiful job.
I like him better than Joachim Phoenix...is it true...did he fancy himself a gladiator then?

Mike thank you for your comment. David i m glad you like it. The truth is that this isa very popular figure around the planet so it was very easy to find excellent references. Phil from what i v read in the included information sheet the figure is based on a wall painting, so i guess yes he used do dress up like Hercules and smash skulls in the arena. It s well documented that he was kinda crazy!!!

Interesting that you should write that...when I first looked at this beauty, I thought to myself..."this has to be Hercules, with the lion pelt and all". Now I understand....
I wonder if he actually fought those who he smashed in their skulls...or was it a case of soldiers holding down a bunch of hapless victims and he just went down the line?
Going in the arena with a club against swords, tridents, axes and spears doesn't seem to logical...or smart.

Phil I had this thought myself when I read about the history of the figure. It said that the other gladiators where honored to fight against or be beaten by the emperor so I don't think they resisted alot. And of course there is always the scenario you mentioned that the opponents where beaten up to death or injured by the time they went to the arena. I tend to believe the second scenario. Hail to the great emperor huh?

Some progress on the shield. Nothing to fancy. Will post some final pics pretty soon i hope. Thank you for taking the time to look.
