Battlefield booty was usually offered first to the captain of the company, who decided whether it went "up" or "down". Such swords as our friend here carries could have been a family hand-me-down or pillaged in an earlier campaign. Archers were known to possess all manner of edged implements from various sources, almost anything that did not impede their ability to nock an arrow and draw up a longbow. I'm quite happy that our veteran here has earned his sword, by the look of him(y)

The more I see this the more I like it. Old Taffs point is well made but I'd still be tempted to replace the sword with an agricultural type chopper or a heavy knife.
The idea of loot works really well with the post charge actions of archers. The scraggy mail coif is just the sort of useful loot an archer would keep.
I love it when a figure stirs the imagination.(y)
