English Civil War question

Living in a different part of the world makes knowing smaller details of events like the ECW or, vice versa, the ACW when not living here a bit difficult. I have read a few books and watched a few shows of the ECW but have a question.

We see and read that sashes helped identify sides, and that orange and red were prevalent. I am painting an ECW Ironsides and wonder if I have any historically accurate options when it comes to the sash?

Kevin, as the article says, there wasnt anything laid down officially for either side. As most of the regiments were raised by local gentry, benefactors, etc, there is a wide range of options. Try looking on the net for ECW reenactment societies pics for reference - that is a good source of info.

Hi Kevin, you might find somethig useful in the Osprey Elite Series No's 25 & 27, Soldiers of the English Civil War 1 Infantry and 2 Cavalry. Hope this is helpful.
